2025 Best Colleges with No Application Fee in Virginia

Freshman: I am an international student at UVA Wise. The resources from UVA are extensive, and the community is wholesome. However, there are not many international students. The dorms, especially McCraray, are not great but not as bad as people say. Freshmen must stay in the dorms, and I am on the 3rd floor. The student recreation team and wellness center organize many fun programs. However, the dorm and food are quite expensive for the location. As a vegetarian, I find the food options limited, and the cafeteria is not open 24 hours, which is inconvenient when I'm hungry late at night. For student-athletes, this university is financially beneficial. The professors are understanding and supportive, pushing students to succeed despite the rigorous courses. There is also a free tutoring and writing center. One major issue I faced is the inability to live off-campus, even with a valid reason. I feel like I'm paying $13,000 per year for living expenses without much benefit. . Read 255 reviews

Tidewater Community College

Rating 3.87 out of 5 1,623 reviews

Graduate Student: I attended the first year completely online, but for my second year I took three in-person courses. These were two completely different experiences, yet I was able to navigate well through each of them. Faculty and staff were all friendly and eager to help, and security was tight. My professors and classmates, including the students around campus, were all great and sociable. There were many hang out spots in campus, including the student center, cafe, and library. If there were any changes I would like to see it would be a more accessible way to navigate through campus. I had a couple people ask me for directions, and sometimes even I could not answer them. A map handout at the front, or even a clearer way to access the map on the site would be beneficial to a lot of people looking to apply, attend class, or visit the shops and library. . Germanna Community College

Rating 3.77 out of 5 572 reviews

Freshman: I am in my second semester at Germanna Community College. I am a second generation immigrant and I wanted to go to a college that has a diverse community. There is not much to do on campus except for taking classes, but all the staff and professors are very supportive and unbiased. They will help you out any time of the day and even go out of the way to facilitate you, depending on the circumstances. There are no dorms and Germanna doesn't provide a lot of opportunities for scholarships. But it really is a great option if you want to do pre-requisites or complete college credits. Plus, it has 3 locations in Virginia, sometimes you'll have to move to-and-fro between the campuses for different classes. The online courses are really comprehensive and almost equally hard to the in-person ones. Moreover, Germanna has a lot of transfer partners and the transfer staff is efficient. They make the whole process of applying to and transferring to a 4-year school seamless. . Read 572 reviews
